Still Alive

Still Alive, 2005

Video animation

In this series of short videos, dead animals cross the bounds of mortality and become animate objects. Created as a simulacrum of the traditional still life paintings with dramatic natural light and lush amber hues, each video is imbued with the past, yet the dead animals are alive and moving: a rabbit and a duck engage in a post-mortem cuddle, a pigeon fidgets on its back and a sheep’s eye follows the buzzing fly above its head.  With the use of skinned fleshy dead animals, these three compositions, or rather decompositions, contemplate the vanity of our existence.
