Hval, Scandinavian word for whale, is a 3D installation that approximates the scaffolding of shipbuilding. Consisting mainly of vacuum left by the body of whale that has disappeared, this scale-to-life sculpture blurs the line between the prey and the predator. The ship side is made of light wood in strict geometric fashion whereas the dark opposite side reveals more organic form accentuated by the black hole, which is whale’s pectoral fin on the positive side, creating a striking visual impact.
