Fireflies

Fireflies, 2009

Photogravure

41 x 32 cm

A photogravure series of butterflies with burned wings, Fireflies mimics lacelike drawings in black and white of rare elegance. Both mythical and metaphorical, it is a work that literates the mythology of Icarus while illustrating something beautiful and innocent that ultimately met its end in a violent way aided by elation and attraction. The end result speaks of fragility and shattered illusions while retaining the beauty and the movement of the journey.
