Cases

Cases, 2000

Vacuum formed PET, velvet, leather

Variable dimensions

A variety of edible objects – fish, peppers, lamb, chicken, sandwich, asparagus, octopus, cabbage and eggplant – are molded and reconfigured in 1:1 scale as cases that evoke the ones that carry musical instruments with elegant velvet-lined inside or purses. In addition to being a pontification on how objects – specifically food in this case – are packaged in certain cultures (i.e. bento box in Japan) and how we transport precious objects, the series, through unique forms that represent generality, also poses the question: what is the line between multiplicity and singularity, and content and container?
