Christian Gonzenbach

This exhibition in the baroque church of Bellelay is organized in accordance with the layout of this religious building. The nave was occupied by La Nef, a monumental structure of the skeletal prow of a ship made of local fir that is evocative of both Noah's Ark and scaffolding. The heart of the church remained empty, dotted with gigantic bones (replicas) and Boots, also empty. On each side of the chapel, a sculpture on a pedestal designed for the occasion and made of varnished oak reminiscent of religious props of a bygone era was installed. The overall effect was as though the contents of the Ark had spilled out into the church.
